Bacon Bits in Trachea and Bronchi

Extraction Case

Cutting food into small pieces is usually helpful, but sometimes a toddler, with multiple pieces of food in his/her mouth, will cry then gasp for air. In this case, 9 small pieces of bacon needed to be removed. Their distribution within the trachea and main bronchi is depicted schematically.

The presence of older siblings in the household increases the risk for choking, possibly because toys and other objects with small parts are more likely to be present and caregiving activities, such as feeding, to be undertaken by older siblings.[Ref:44]
